Beaches
The coast around
Knysna offers visitors endless opportunites to explore
its natural beauty. Visit Brenton-on-Sea, Buffalo Bay,
Bollard Bay on Leisure Isle, and the beach and estuary
at Noetzie and enjoy walking, swimming, fishing, surfing,
boardsailing, beach games or lazy sunbathing . . .
The warm currents of the Indian Ocean make for pleasant sea temperatures in the
summer months. Tides can be strong though, and bathers need take care with strong
currents at specific beaches.
Fishing
Knysna provides
a wealth of opportunities for the keen fisherman: fly-fishing,
rock and surf fishing, deepsea fishing, bass and trout
fishing. The most common fish caught in the area are
steenbras, grunter and leervis.
A permit is required for any fishing or bait-collecting in the estuary or along
the coast. This is obtainable from any Post Office.
An invertebrate reserve has
been proclaimed in the area between Thesen Island and Leisure Island : no bait
may be collected from this area.

Diving
Diving along
the Knysna coastline is a unique and wonderful experience,
offering a kaleidoscope of colours and spectacular
coral reefs. Nudibranchs, sea spiders, Toothed decorator
crabs, colourful corals, fish and sharks are but a
few of the wonders to be seen.
The famous Knysna seahorse can be found in the Knysna lagoon, which has the highest
diversity of organisms of any estuary in South Africa.
Reef dives, shore dives and wreck dives are offered by local dive companies.
Due to the nature of these waters, diving can be dangerous.

Knysna Yacht Club
Knysna Yacht
Club is situated in the center of the Garden Route
which in turn is situated midway between Cape Town
and Port Elizabeth.
The Knysna Yacht Club is renowned world-wide for its hospitality and facilities.
The visiting Yachtsman has, after he has passed through the infamous Knysna Heads,
a safe navigable lagoon where he may moor his yacht whilst visiting Knysna and
surrounding district.
