The Indian Ocean makes for pleasant swimming in the summer, but be careful as tides can be strong and bathers must be wary of dangerous currents. Remember, sun protection is important.

- You are not allowed to use artifical breathing apparatus (except a snake) while spearfishing.
- You may not catch or attempt to catch fish using a gaff, spear, club, flail, stick, stone or simular instruments.
- No cast nets may be used between sunset and sunrise.
-You may not disturb, be in possession of, catch or kill a dolphin
- No person may approach closer than 300m a whale or disturb, attempt to catch or kill a whale at any time.
- You may not kill, catch, or atempt to do either, any great white shark.
- You may not damage, uproot, collect or land any coral, live pansy shells or sea-fans. Coral, pansy shells or sea-fans washed up on the shore may be collected.
- Bollard Bay is an Ideal family beach, with safe swimming in shallow waters.
- The Green Hole is on the east of the Island, and has excellent braai (BBQ) and picnic facilities and public toilets. Care should be taken when the tide is going out.
A fine, sandy beach stretching all the way to Brenton-on-Sea. A family beach with safe swimming and excellent surfing conditions. Ideal for walking and fishing. Whales and dolphins are often spotted from shore. Showers, toilets, a restaurant and shop are available nearthe parking area.
The beach is suitable for walking and sunbathing. It is also popular with paragliders. A big rock formation, known as Castle Rock, is a favourite fishing spot, although swimming here can be dangerous due to the currents. There are several little bays and coves to the east of Castle Rock, with cliffs, caves and rock pools to explore.
Noetzie Beach:
A steep path leads down to the beach. The Noetzie River forms a pretty lagoon before flowing out over the small sandy beach into the sea. Noetzie is famous for its 'castles'.
Goukamma:
Situated between Buffalo Bay and Sedgefield, offers wonderful beaches, some of South Africa's highest sand dunes, flowing river mouths and pristine coastal forests. It also includes the only fresh water lake (Groenvlei) of the area.
Sedgefield:
An outdoor paradise offering numerous activities in the shelter of its famous dunes, creating a haven for fauna and flora alike. Sedgefield boasts unspoilt beaches, including the beach at the river mouth, Myoli and Cola, Platbank bordering the Goukamma Nature Reserve and Swartvlei Beach alongside the majestic Gericke's Point.
Plettenberg Bay:
Plettenberg Bay, or Plett, as it is more familiarly known, has fabulous beaches stretching for miles. It’s also one of the best boat based whale and dolphin watching destinations in the world and the diving and surfing is great.
